This award is continued by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) in coordination with the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA), the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE), and the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor organization (VGCL). To be selected for the Ranking, participating businesses must fully meet the rigorous screening criteria of the Corporate Sustainability Index (CSI) built as a measure of value of businesses based on sustainable development criteria in the fields of economics, environment, and society.
This is also the first set of indicators in Vietnam dedicated to measuring business activities aimed at sustainable development, built based on reference to international guidelines and practices, and at the same time it adjusted to suit the domestic context. The index is also a tool to record measurement goals and manage changes to make business operations more sustainable. Regarding the 2019 CSI Index, it was streamlined from 131 to 98 indicators, of which 90% are legal compliance indicators. The indicators are also scientifically grouped, more updated with international practices and domestic laws, highly applicable and suitable for more uses.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh, General Secretary of VCCI, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Business Council for Sustainable Development (VBCSD) assessed that the 2019 version of the index is more complete and richer in content. It is a useful pocket handbook for all business managers and investors.
“We believe that with the new version in 2019, CSI is an effective assistant for the decision-making process of administrators and investors, towards more responsible business operations, creating more sustainable prosperity," said Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh.
Over a 4-year journey (2016-2019), the program to evaluate and announce sustainable businesses in Vietnam has created a great spread and encouragement for the Vietnamese business community on corporate governance issue towards sustainable development, especially when the domestic economy is joining the wave of digital transformation in the 4.0 industrial revolution.
